Durbin never trashed the troops. He quoted from an FBI agent's report describing prisoners chained to the floor, without food or water, being subjected to extreme temperatures. As quoted in the Washington Post, Durbin said, "If I read this to you and did not tell you that it was an FBI agent describing what Americans had done to prisoners in their control, you would most certainly believe this must have been done by Nazis, Soviets in their gulags, or some mad regime - Pol Pot or others - that had no concern for human beings,"

Now, we have people criticizing Durbin...
By Thursday, conservatives' anger at what they portrayed as a comparison between the U.S. and some of history's most murderous regimes was boiling.

"I think the senator's remarks are reprehensible," said White House spokesman Scott McClellan.

Conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh said on his show, "This is the kind of thing that ought to force him to resign in disgrace."

So, um, rather than address the issue or talk about it, attack him. That is the answer. And sadly, it appears that a good portion of the 'liberal' media have fallen in line with the GOP and condemning his comments (watch while I feign surprise).

And while I am on the subject. WTF is this about PBS and NPR being biased. So us your research that you spent US$10k of taxpayer dollars on, you biased ass, Mr. Tomlinson.

I was listening to some wingnut on "The Patriot" (AM 1570, and I think it was Michael Savage or Mike Gallagher) this morning on my way to Starbucks for blessed java. Like many wingnuts, he can't distinguish between denouncing the acts of some Americans (possibly under sanction by U.S. officials) and everyone else involved in Iraq or the "war on terror". Point out a few problems that better damn well be addressed, and you automatically hate the troops and hate America. Whatever. These people are so simple-minded it's stunning. His argument hinged upon the specious claim that by pointing out abuses and torture, the enemy now will be more likely to torture our people that they capture. Hello, they already do this. They don't need any excuses. If no one tries to point out and fix the problems, if this line of reasoning is right then by not fixing them you are part of the problem.

"Patriots" my ass...

Have you heard Bill Moyer talking about the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and Tomlinson on NPR? OMG!!! It was one of the best speeches I've ever heard and exactly the type of strength America needs to oppose the Republican Party leadership. I think that opposition party is called Democrits or something. I forget. Ooo...shiny. Gotta go.

I cannot believe Durbin caved... Democrats have no spine whatsoever. That cretin that calls himself mayor of Chicago should be ashamed for his comments on Durbin, as should all so-called Democrats who turned on him. Spineless idiots.
